About Massage 
There are many different types of massage, each developed to deliver a different experience and address a different set of therapeutic needs. Each type of massage is called a "modality". Below, in alphabetical order, are the modalities available at A Healing Touch. 

Deep Tissue Massage: A therapeutic massage. Alleviates pain, muscle spasms, inflammation and tissue damage. Great for anyone with soft tissue problems that produce any discomfort or pain.   

Oncology Massage, for persons experiencing cancer: The long-held myth that massage is unsafe for persons with cancer has been dispelled by recent research. A therapist familiar with the physiological effects of chemo and surgery associated with cancer treatment can provide a safe massage experience. Massage can reduce stress, ease pain, and even facilitate a good night's sleep for those experiencing the effects of cancer. 

Reflexology:One of the most popular massages after Swedish, it triggers the body’s own healing powers. This method involves the application of gentle pressure to reflex points located on the feet which “reflect” to internal organs, glands and other parts of the body. By applying pressure to these points, the therapist can affect and normalize body function, while detoxifying and cleansing. This enhances the immune system and stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself.   

Reiki: The belief that there is a life force in and around us is the foundation for this form of body work. Through static pressure, the therapist gently taps into the life force at specific locations on the body. Reiki can be administered while you are sitting, standing, or supine, and is effective even when you are fully clothed. The impact varies by person - some are deeply relaxed; others find themselves completely energized. Each experience is as unique as the person experiencing it.

Swedish Massage: A light-to-medium-pressure therapeutic massage. Relieves muscle tension, stimulates circulation, increases serotonin levels, improves muscle tone and promotes total mind and body relaxation.
